What does the letter/numbers in parentheses listed after the group name pertain to?

    I dont know the "game" reason behind it - thus am assuming zbot's response covers that -  but I can add that a lot of  groups/teams form "alliances"   Where a group of different teams come together to share game knowledge, socialize, work to help each other out etc...   initials in parentheses behind a team name that is part of an Alliance,  can also refer to the alliance that team is affilated with. .   
    Example:   RR Dynasty ... teams associated with this alliance will have (RRD) after their team name...
