Purchasing items when not at max level - why I am reluctant to spend money

BismarckBismarck Member Posts: 45
@eetu @Teeceezy Please first let me say that I love the upcoming change to survivors. They ensure that no survivor is ever obsolete unless they have undesireable traits.

I wish to see this extended to equipment as well, especially purchased equipment. Let us take the Michoone bundle as an example. The sword looks great: gold wide arc and luck. I'd love one. But I will not be spending the $20 to get one, and I will tell you why.

My highest level Warrior is lvl 15. Therefore, the sword would be lvl 15. As I progress through the game, this sword would eventually become useless to me, simply because I purchased it before reaching max level. For this reason alone, I will not be purchasing this bundle, which is a shame, as I would love this sword, but am unwilling to spend money on an item I will one day outgrow.

I would encourage NG to please look at this issue and give those who have purchased item bundles while at low level an opportunity to ensure those items remain relevent as they advance through the levels.

I have to agree with you in that all equipment should be able to grow with survivors. Maybe our survivors can learn skills that allows them to modify traits as well as an item's level. Like in the real world, you'd be able to modify weapons such as a sawed-off shotgun or a sharpening of a blade.

The way the system is currently set up, it simply makes no sense for players who are not max level to purchase item bundles: you spend money for an item that eventually becomes useless. Never before have I seen a company discourage people to spend money like this. If you want us to buy bundles, ensure that the items we purchase will be useful to us at all levels, and not just for a week or so after the purchase.

    Gear really quick getting obsolete.
The painful aspect is upgrading cost. If upgrading cost will be less for 25% then we will be able to change gear, buy bundles more often.
Now we have to spend $$ on bundles... but also $ on XP booster. I just don't see other options to get milions of xp.

But if you bought weapons and they didn't become obsolete why would you buy anymore. It is away to keep you purchasing bundles for weapons with the traits you want. I think it's fair it you want a weapon now instead of using tg or getting them from gold tickets.

I haven't purchased any of the recent bundles for this exact reason.

I don't see why everyone complains about the game so much some things are not the best but I deal with it cause I really like the game. Everyone is in such a rush to get to the end when in reality there is not one. Sit back enjoy the game don't worry about having everything max once you have things maxed cause soon there will be another thing to upgrade. Its a grinding game just have fun with it.

    @Bismarck

The mods have stated they are already looking at the gear stuff...they're just focusing on the new survivor changes first and because it's such a big change/undertaking it would have been impossible for them to do the survivor changes and any possible gear changes at the same time.

This doesn't mean the same thing will happen to gear as to what is happening with the survivors...that will only be determined down the road by NG...but at least they are looking into it
You better check yo self before you wreck yo self...cuz I'm bad for your health, I come real stealth

Brenr, I am not complaining about the game. It is enjoyable, and I like that NG offers us this forum to communicate directly with the developer. I would be more willing to support this developer if the items I purchased levelled up with me, and I am sure I am not alone in thinking this way. This is the feedback I am giving the developer with this thread.

I am not asking for all equipment to level up with the player, as this would result in players with legendary equipment never having to search out new equipment. This thread is only about that equipment which is offered from bundles. Perhaps a change as simple as setting these unique equipment items to have no max level so I can continue to level them throughout the game, so long as my workshop permits such an upgrade.

I am not here to start arguements but I think of it this way of you want to have the best things all the time then you can pay. If I buy my child a very nice set of clothes I should be able to go to the store and get the next side up after they outgrow it. That would be nice but how is anyone going to make any money.

At least now with the XP doubler in place, you can get a fair reimbursement for your now useless, fully leveled gear. Things are moving in the right direction.

@Brenr If you aren't here to start an argument then why are you arguing? We're not allowed to share our opinion with NG like everyone else on the forum without being labeled complainers?

I'm just stating my opinion thinking that this is fair. And yes voicing your opinion once a while and being a troll crying about everything in the game are to different things.

@Brenr Of course you're allowed to state your opinion, but could you do it without labeling and generalizing?

Nobody is trolling here. We are discussing a game... If you don't like it, don't play it. Pretty simple. I like it enough to play it and take the time to provide the developer with feedback, which I have done here. Frankly, I really couldn't care less if any particular person agrees or disagrees with the feedback I provided, and I am most certainly not looking to engage in an argument with anyone over it....

I never said I didn't like the game so take your own advice and if you don't like the way it is simple don't play or buy bundles. Forums are for people who play the game to discuss things about the game so if you don't want to hear other players opinions on a forum then don't post simple as that and I am done have a good weekend

Purchased weapons should be able to be leveled up or the package cost should be pro-rated to your level to be fair. While a certain weapon looks great at level 10, you outgrow it quickly. The same weapon looks great at level 20 and it lasts you virtually forever. Currently the cost is the same no matter what level, it's very frustrating and once lower level players figure this out, they stop spending real world money for weapons. I think Next Games could increase their bottom line by one of the two solutions I propose.

I'll contribute to this necro ;-)
I just got a buddy to download this game and the biggest piece of advice I gave him was NOT buy the weapon bundles because they'll be much more useful to him when he gets to max level. This is a guy that would make it rain for NG with in-app purchases. Has there been any discussion about potential solutions to this "problem"?

What it, for every weapon pack you paid for, you could periodically purchase an upgrade for a much smaller price? That way, when the level 12 shooter weapon I got becomes completely obsolete at (or before) level 15, I could trade it in (plus a couple bucks) for the level 15 version of the same weapon.

What if items purchased in bundles would grow with the players, but only up to the current level cap at the time of the purchase?

That way, players who are not currently max level could feel confident enough that their purchase will remain useful while they progress, but NG will retain assurances that the item will eventually need to be replaced and cycled out of the economy?
