Attention all Math Nerds!!

I need your help. This is absolutely not game related. My balance billing for electricity is going to reset in July so I’m trying to estimate what my monthly bill will be.

I figure many of you, like myself, might be in balanced billing for electricity. We’re going into my 3rd year here and 2nd on balanced billing.

Year 1 - we paid monthly. This sucked in the summer
Year 2 - we went on balanced billing. $105 a month
Year 3 - ???

I need your help @Gindy @jimmorrison369 @Bill_ZRT or anyone else to help me if I’ve calculated correctly. I’ll post the screen shot of the data. Then my post below will include how I figured it out.

Based on my estimations. We will owe an extra $80 in August to “catch us up” to what they estimated us to be.

If they use that new Total our bills would go up to $111.65 a month.

    $1050 was for 10 months. $105 a month.

“Total cost to date” simply means, if we payed as we use it and every month a different balance; that we would have paid them $1,116.41 instead of $1,050.

    So here’s the math.

    $1,116.41 divides by 10 months is $111.64 a month.

$111.64 a month average x 12 months is $1,333.69. This is the estimated amount we’d pay them this year based on actual usage over the past 10 months.

Assuming our usage isn’t much in may and June (woman said were slightly behind our last years usage as of May) then....

    $105 a month x 12 months = $1,260 estimated

$1,339.69 would be our estimated annual payment.

    $1,339.69 - $1,260 = $79.69
This is the money we owe them to end our 17/18 balance billing.

Now balance billing for 18/19 begins in July. They’ll estimate since we used $1,340 in 17/18 that our “estimated balance billing” for 18/19 is $1,340 divided by 12 months equals $111.67.

We pay $105 a month now.

We’ll probably be upped to $111 a month after July.

We will also owe them about $80 to finish off last year. They’ll probably break it into 6 payments or maybe over the next year. No interest.

    I predict...

    July bill $105
    August bill $111 + $13 = $124
    September $111 + $13 = $124
    October $111 + $13 = $124
    November 111 + $13 = $124
    December $111 + $13 = $124
    January $111 + $13 = $124
    February $111
    March $111
    April $111
    May $111
    June $111
    July $111

If we pay the $80 upfront (I suggest) then all our bills will be $111

Put a/c on power saving. Turn off all unnecessary appliances. Turn off lights when nobody is in the room.

    That's all I got.

Where are you located and what is the cost per kWh? Wow that is high for electricity! My cost is close to $0.08 per kWh and an average bill is 1/4 of yours.

@PigBenis northeast USA. We rent a large apartment.

    3 bedrooms
    1 bathroom
Dining room (size of living room)
    Living room
    Kitchen
Play room (size of living room)

When I used to keep track of try and set us to 13-15 kWh a day. $90 a month is “normal” non warm months.

When summer comes electric goes up due to air conditioner usage. When winter comes has goes up due to heating usage. Gas was $42 this month. Sweet compared to triple digits in January.

With fees and charges etc it would work out to $.27 per kWh and that’s on a non warm month.

@PigBenis I just found this on the site. Looks like I’m ahead.

Also this is my usage cost. I’d love $.08 kWh.

    Ahh!!!

    Mystery solved.

In the original post I wrote I’d owe $66.41

    Since I pay $105 a month...

    $105 - $66.41 = $38.59 (above screen shot)

So last one is on July 24. I’ll pay $105 on July 17. They’ll read on July 24.

I can use $143.59 in electricity this month and break even (no money owed).

*edit it seems regardless my next cycle will be similar. Definitely within $3 of my current bill either way. Unless I use 749 kWh this month alone I think I’m safe lol.

    That's all I got.

I got a 7 year old and a 4 year old. Went to turn down the blinds realized the heater was on. My daughter turned it on. My daughter is a wild child.

Tell that to my kids! Lol.

$105 a month is a decent price for a family of 4 with this size apartment. Summer it’s double or more than that. Balance billing for is smooth and easy.

I think I figured it out. @David_H79 @MadPuppy @zbot @Cherokee_Rose would you please close this thread.

+100 to DLich if this thread is closed before @Gindy comments back or +50 to Gindy if she comments first. *tagging her to be fair.
