Possible Spoilers: Discussion of the game in context with crossover content from the show

theblueboxthebluebox Member Posts: 807
This is an experimental thread to discuss the nuances of the game in context with the NML universe. The game is based on the show, so some discussion of minor content from the show is necessary to analyze aspects of the game. If you have not caught up on the show, this is your fair warning that this thread may contain minor spoilers.

This thread IS NOT for analysing and decompressing after the show. That's what Chris Hardwick and The Talking Dead is for. There are tons of fan groups on social meadia for that purpose. This thread is for discussing nuances of the game in context of cross over information. As such, there is a limit to spoilers.

Let's pretend there was a game challenge based on an episode in Season 2. In it, we had wells on a field that fat tanks could crawl out of.

What is allowed: Comments of a general nature where the devs drew gane content directly from a scene in the episode. Example: The walkers coming out of the wells were inaccurate since we only saw one walker in a well. Zombie cows to kill would have been a better choice.

What might tread into Too Much Information: Naming characters, specific locations, or details that reveal where the plot is headed. Example: The walkers coming out of the wells was inaccurate because the only walker in a well had to be killed by Glen. The only other zombies in the episode were in the trees on the other side of the fences.

What is definitely giving TMI and is NOT allowed: Details that reveal major plot lines. The death of characters is ALWAYS a major plot line. Example: The walkers coming out of the wells was inaccurate because Glen was lowered into the well to kill the only one. It was all squishy, Glen couldn't get hold of it, and it almost got him. In the end, we ended up with a walker that was split in half, poisoned the well, and they had to seal it off. We should have checked the barn instead.

IF YOU ABSOLUTELY MUST share an orange or red level thought, please use the spoiler tag. ANYTHING THAT HAS NOT HAPPENED IN THE SHOW but is in the comics is RED LEVEL. Talking about a character death is ALWAYS RED LEVEL. The game parallels the show, and the show does not always follow the comics. I don't expect to see very many of those tags, but they are available if needed.

The new and improved spoiler tag is broken, so for the time being, we need to use the old one. Replace the ( ) in the following with triangle brackets < >. it is the same tag that is in the editor menu.

(div class="Spoiler")Level Red Spoiler goes here(/div)

It will look like this if you code it correctly

Now that we all know what is TMI, have at it.

Now that we have all had fair warning, I would like to start by discussing the weapons.

Currently, all firearms in game attract walkers. However, the Alexandria arsenal seems to be well stocked with some handguns and sniper rifles with silencers. Our survivors have some sort of relationship with Alexandria as evidenced by Daryl showing up in game. It stands to reason that we might have acquired a few silencers through trade. I think a new silencer trait should be added to handguns and rifles. Like other traits, it would be randomly generated and have a success percentage attached. A silencer on a Rare might only have a 25% success, Epic at 50%, and Legendary at 75%.

@TheMurphy Yes, I do remember that. Anyone can shoot a gun, but a bow man learned that before all this. Crossbows would be awesome. The problem is the ammo. A crossbow quiver caries a finite amount of bolts. Then, you would have to spend a turn retrieving them.

Currently, I like to carry 1 Shooter, 1 Hunter, and 1 Warrior on most missions, at least until I see how many armored walkers have to be dealt with. If it is a mission with no armored on a challenge, I will drop the warrior in favor of another shooter.

@TheMurphy May I ask where you live? Your word choice tells me you are not a native English writer. I did not realize that Z Nation had a following outside of the US. I picked up watching Z Nation to fill the gap between TWD seasons.

@TheMurphy NOOOOO!!!!! I never read the comics! TMI I don't want to know.

The show doesn't always follow the comics. There is still hope!

Seriously, please use the spoiler tag if you are going to post about anything that has not happened in the show yet.

Replace the ( ) in the following with triangle brackets < >.

(div class="Spoiler")What you want to say(/div)

It will look like this if you do it correctly. Please edit your comment to hide the last line.

    @Alibaba Thanks!

Producers fund movies and shows. Some producers fund any show that comes their way. The idea is that one big hit will pay off, and some very strange shows have cult followings, so they fund everything. Other producers are more selective.

Google translate is acceptable for short sentences and phrases. It is not good for strings of sentences. When I have needed it to translate into Russian, I check it by having it translate the Russian back to English. If that is greatly different than what I meant, I choose different words and try again.

I do not use scouts often. I have 14 survivors. Of those, 1 is a scout. I use warriors instead of scouts. My best team is Warrior, Shooter, and Hunter. (Of course, those are my only 3 legendary survivors. My opinion may change when I have other legendaries.

Slaughterhouse had some problems from my point of view. Given what happened in the show, I would like to have seen at least one mission with human enemies. There was also a room on fire. Burning walkers would have made more sense than all of those armored ones.

I have a theory as to why we went back to Hilltop this challenge, but it requires a spoiler.

Two shows ago, someone from Hilltop was rescued. That person was sent back with another guy during the fighting. Since our survivors parallel the show and seem to follow behind the Alexandrians doing clean up, it could be reasoned that we were either asked to escort the rescued guy back OR guard Hilltop while the conflict was ongoing. While the game did not show that we had contact with Daryl before or during the conflict, we can make a small assumption that he asked our survivors for back up off screen.

There is still the unanswered question from Abraham to think about... "Who's Neegan?"
I'm speculating here, but I think the group is either going back to Hilltop or gonna find out.

Now we are treading into orange zone.

A few Saviors have said "We are all Neegan", and yet there is the implication of a single person. That is definitely a sign of a cult. Could be Neegan is some sort of Manson type figure. The game is paralleling the show BUT we seem to be going behind Akexandria doing clean up. Alexandria hasn't returned to Hilltop yet. We have gone back first. This is the first time a new map had been the second challenge. That could mean absolutely nothing and have no link to the game, or it could be sneaky foreshadowing like the Alexandrians end up splitting into two groups. If that happens, then each challenge might mirror one of the groups.

Certain people were already supposed to be dead, now that they're fan favorites I don't believe they will die.

In the comics, one main character was supposed to have lost his arm before the prison battle. He still has both arms. The show doesn't always follow the comics.

@bgbelden I was very concerned about the comic story line as it implicates who is going to go in the season finale. When I went back through each characters story line from the comics I felt relieved. There has been a HUGE departure from who lives and who dies and how. So I believe you are correct about that.

I have my concerns about certain characters however because of the trend the producers have set. In the past before someone goes we get a lot of quiet moments with them. Insight. Then, they are gone.

@thebluebox how that ties into this thread - what would they do if the only series character represented on the game was no longer in the series? That would be a HUGE spoiler. And none of us would be happy about that at all! !!!

    We riot!

    Thanks for starting this thread!

@SenoiaSurvivor Well, that one character is at the very beginning, and then we don't see him again until later in the game. They just would work the challenge to not include him that week. Then, a new character would start coming in during missions that have direct cross content. They would be able to manage it in a way that the game does not give away plot line.

I live about 2 1/2 hours from Atlanta. If they actually kill that particular character, I will drive to Atlanta, find the set, and protest until they figure out how to bring him back!

We spent a day in Senoia last year (thus the screen name) Absolutely perfectly beautiful little town - all the surrounding ones too. We spent the day chasing down filming locations. So I'm totally up for another road trip! Happy to join you! !!!

    OMG OMG OMG OMG

    Spoilers Not Spoilers
Survivors got on each other's nerves. People did stupid bovine feces. NOOOOO!!!!!! and THAT had to hurt! You'd have an easier time trying to pick up a turd by the clean end

I really can't wait to see what the challenge does with this episode.

New discussion for that will start on TUESDAY morning.

Edit: Going back to the old spoiler tag does not support multiple levels.
This episode was bovine feces for sure. That is the problem, there are so many bovine feces episodes. S1E1 was brilliant. Then ones like The Grove (Might be the best of all, with a nod to something we know.) Last week tremendous. But too many weak episodes.
• theblueboxthebluebox Member Posts: 807
Ah, but the "weak" episodes give the details and background that invests us in the characters. It cannot be killing walkers all episode every episode.

Well, there will not be a new thread this challenge. We are back in the Town rather than a crossover challenge.

@Alibaba HELP! The new spoiler tag is suddenly not working and all the spoilers we posted are now visible!

@thebluebox lol..don't worry your spoilers aren't that spoiling.
  • PerdtinPerdtin Member Posts: 783
@thebluebox Since tags not working, won't discuss because I do not want to accidentally relation the canine by an inappropriate post. :)

ALAN SEPINWALL on hitfix.com had a review that mentions some of the things I was thinking. I did not include the URL. And anyone who has not seen the episode, of course avoid googlng reviews :)

@ggbats: For the purpose of this thread, anything not directly related to crossover to the game from the show is considered a spoiler. With regards to crossover content, Anything mentioning names or major plot lines needs a spoiler tag.
    image
  • theblueboxthebluebox Member Posts: 807
@Perdtin Well, since the thread is related to crossover with the game, we really cannot discuss the show episode itself until/unless they create a challenge based directly on it.

You can always PM me though!

    @TheMurphy

Spoilers Not Spoilers didn't do anything to break the code. It is a variation on an American turn of phrase.

Sorry Not Sorry is the original expression. It refers to an insincere apology. For example, my sister borrowed my favorite boots without my permission when I was a teenager. They were suede, it rained, and they were ruined. I got angry at my sister, yelled at her, and trew one of the boots at her head. My sister was punished for borrowing my boots without asking first. My mother forced me to apologize for yelling at her and throwing my boot at her head. I said, "I am sorry you made me mad enough to throw my boot at you." That is a sorry not sorry. I didn't actually apologize for throwing the boot at her. I said I was sorry that she made me angry, putting the blame on her.

So, a spoiler not spoiler is infomation that is technically a spoiler because it hasn't crossed into the game yet. However, it isn't really a spoiler because it is so vague that no one that hasn't seen the episode would understand it.

Also, stop talking about the episodes in that much detail. This is for talking about content in the game that is directly pulled from the show (crossover content). Challenges like Slaughterhouse were directly based on the episode.

This challenge is an old map. It was not based on the episode of the show. We don't talk about the episode until there is a challenge based on it. Even then, we do try to leave out names and specifics that might reveal major plot turns.
