Crate Rewards: My Drop Rate Data

Here is the percentage of crates that were Gold or Silver.

Non-Deadly Missions: 2.7% of Crates were Gold, 15.3% of Crates were Silver (Sample Size = 516 Total Non-Deadly Missions)
Deadly Missions: 5.9% of Crates were Gold, 28.9% of Crates were Silver (Sample Size = 152 Total Deadly Missions)

Non-Deadly Missions data includes Food Exploratory Missions (204), Episode Missions (18), & Guild Challenge Missions (294).
Deadly Missions data includes Exploratory Deadly Missions (113) and Deadly Guild Missions (39).
**Results were consistent within each type of mission.


Reward Data
Some rewards are constant. Regardless of what mission you play, or what degree of difficulty, the following Crate Rewards are always the same:

Bronze: 1 Radio, 1/2/3 Gold, 2 Gas
Silver: 2 Radios, 5/6/7/8 Gold, 4 Gas
Gold: 4 Radios, 10/15/20 Gold, 6 Gas


Exploratory Crate Reward Breakdown:
Food Missions:
Total Crates Opened: 793 (Includes Bronze, Silver, Gold Crates)
Food: 59%
Equipment: 17.3%
XP: 9.1%
Radio: 5.5%
Gold: 5%
Gas: 4%
(I do not run XP Exploratory Missions, but I would guess that XP rewards are increased in a way similar to Food in these Food Missions. Anecdotal evidence from other users appears to confirm that.)

Food: 32.7%
XP: 29.2%
Equipment: 23.7%

Since the sample sizes for Gold Crates are small, here is the data from my Trade Good Gold Crates.

    Here is my data on my reward increases from the Gold Crates.

    At Player Level 41/42: Level 14/15 Rare Gear, & Level 13/14 Epic Gear (no Legendary from 55 crates).
    At Player Level 43/44/45: Level 15/16 Rare Gear, Level 14/15/16 Epic Gear, & Level 14/15 Legendary Gear.
    At Player Level 46: Level 16/17 Rare Gear, Level, Level 15/16/17 Epic Gear, & Level 15/16 Legendary Gear.
    (I also got an increase in Food/XP rewards when I reached Player Level 42. I was getting 17,000-19,000 Food/XP, and now I'm getting 19,000-22,000 Food/XP. At Player Level 45, my XP/Food Rewards increased to 22,000-24,000.)

    Since my Equipment inventory is pretty full, I scrap all the Rare Equipment I get. But, a few of these could be useful depending on what equipment you already have. Most of the Legendary & Epic equipment is also "useless" to me; since XP needs to be rationed, I don't spend it on high level equipment with bad traits. All of my useful Survivors are Level 17, so the only useful equipment I've got are the Level 16 Epics & Level 15 Legendaries with great traits, and in classes where I wasn't lucky enough to already have some great equipment. I was really lacking nice Assault weapons, and last night I was lucky and pulled a nice Level 16 Epic and a nice Level 15 Legendary weapon.

    Like most of the equipment rewards, it's all about luck. If I had a maxed out camp with full supplies, I'd focus on buying the Epic & Legendary crates to try to hit on a higher level piece of awesome equipment. Since I'm still building up my camp, the Food/XP/Radios are what I'm really trying to get, and if I get a nice piece of equipment, that's just icing on the cake! Out of the 181 pieces of equipment I've got, I'd say only 3-5 have the potential of being upgraded by me. So, the % is not high. Honestly, I'm usually disappointed when I get a piece of Equipment in a Gold Crate since it's usually only worth 4-5k in scrap value to me, as opposed to an average of 20,000+ XP/Food when I get the actual reward.

    @JamesPottyMouth -- Thanks! I thought 6 Gas was a Gold Reward, but I have yet to receive it yet in my data collection.

    @NCDawgFan -- Excel is a good friend of mine! It makes my life so much easier, and all it asks for in return is that I be accurate...and calls me out when I make a mistake. What more could you ask for from a piece of software?

    This is really awesome work. I wish I had the foresight to do this for before-the-update and after-the-update.
    The results would have been interesting.
    Since I personally have had major issues regarding receiving low-level gear in exploratory missions (up to 5 levels below my current survivor average), I would have loved to see a focus on that (ie. sample size, %, etc...)
    But regardless, really great work.
    Have you reached any interesting conclusions?

    If you're getting level 12 gear and below from Episode 13 EXP missions with survivors of 17, that blows, and is not what I get. I added the gear I received from my EXP missions into the Level 18 Recommended Survivors section. I can't confirm that all of the gear I got in EXP missions is also available in the equivalent Guild Missions, but the Food/XP rewards are exactly the same, so I'll assume most of the available gear is about the same.

    (Edit: Saw your other post about your current levels and problems. I don't know exactly where you're at, but you can check to see if the rewards you are getting are close to the rewards listed above given the Recommended Survivor Level.)

    From my Level 18 Recommended Survivor Exploratory Missions Gold Crates (both Deadly & Food), here is the breakdown of my equipment:
    Total Equipment: 45
    Rare: 28 (62%) (16% Level 16, 27% Level 17, 20% Level 18)
    Epic: 10 (22%) (7% Level 15, 9% Level 16, 7% Level 17)
    Legendary: 7 (16%) (4% Level 15, 7% Level 16, 4% Level 17)

    I'm at Level 33 - so my survivors are currently Level 13 (3 maxed at this level) and a couple at 14 since I just started upgrading.
    My gear experience is worse than what you have here. I actually receive 2** (uncommons) in my gold crates.
    I have received a couple of epics, but they were at ridiculously low levels. If I didn't know better, I would have thought I got them in low level challenge missions - once I actually double checked that I was playing an exp mission because I was so shocked to get a Level 7 epic.
    And forget about legendaries - they're a myth. :)

    But other than that, I think I am in line with your data.
    Maybe it's just different at higher levels and the lower levels. At your higher levels they have to give you strong equipment, and at lower levels... well they are still trying to get you hooked so you will continue playing.
    Maybe I am in that awkward transition/adolescent stage where nothing makes sense. :)

    It looks like the drop rate for equipment has been raised in the 500 trade good gold crates. Not sure if the drop rate in all gold crates has been changed, and I haven't yet updated the data in the OP.

    I sent out a Goth Signal to @OldGoth to see if we can get any info about a change in drop rate.

    Here's some data about my recent round of opening 500 TG gold crates. I will tag those who may be interested in data collection. If more detail is desired, just PM my inbox.

    (Player level 53, level 19 Legend survivors of every non-Leader class, all story missions completed at least once, essential buildings maxed.)

    Total gold crates opened: 51

    21 Rare equipment levels 18-19
    5 Epic equipment levels 17-19
    3 Legendary equipment levels 17-18
    15 XP range 28.5K - 29.5K
    3 Supplies range 26K - 27K
    2 Radios (gives 4 radios ea crate)
    2 Gold range 10-15


    57% contained equipment and of that 72% were Rare which is totally inappropriate for gold crates. Not just the high rate, but the fact that Rare equipment drops at all from a gold crate is dismaying.

    Ok, now that I turned LVL55 I collected all my rewards and burned all my TG today (incl. 2XP Event)

    Out of 8 Legendary crate openings, all that I've done since its introduction, I've gotten 5 Assault armor. No, not 5 armor but 7 armor pieces in all - I'm saying 5 armor specifically for Assault.

    Good 'ol NG RNG .....

    @LostOnes yeah , camp level 55 unlocks the chance of level 18-19 epic and legendary gear in gold 500 crates , here's a few so far .

    I'm strictly opening 500 crates now as I have had the same luck with crappy traits and scout/bruiser gear in 7500 crates. I'd much rather open 15 gold crates and pick up some xp , radios, and ketchup along the way

    @LostOnes we don't have enough of a sample size to make a claim on that yet , but so far it's been roughly 50/50 for legendary and epic 18 and 19s. Raiding like crazy to make the sample bigger tho ! More info to follow and we will try to keep you posted

    @Governator , my understanding is that the contents of the crates in any mission is pre determined so it doesn't matter what order you open them . I have seen this myself upon disconnect on my tablet ... I still chased gold crates like a dumbass before the spending freeze was happening though .. I must love green gear
