Xp rewards for Story Missions

Yeah, NG reduced the xp rewards for story missions. Yeah, I'm pissed. But before I send my blood pressure through the roof, could someone rational tell me how much the rewards went down? If I have to go by my own faulty memory it feels like A LOT, but before I have a coronary I thought maybe there was a number cruncher out there who could mitigate my pissed-offedness. Please?

    I can't give you specifics, but I bet @OneLessTitan could. Aren't the XP missions supposed to give only XP now? Since the update, keep getting a mix of XP and supplies. Shocker.

    I'm talking about the Story missions, not the exploratory (side) missions. NG reduced the amount of xp you get as a reward for completing the mission (I'm not talking about the crates).

    The story missions were giving 20,000-ish XP for me before, but that was for nightmare levels. It still seems to be about the same. For example, to do mission 1 on Episode 13 is 28,000 XP.

    @masmith93 Shteevie confirmed that while the chance of getting XP crates on XP missions has gone up, it is still possible to get food crates. And I've had this happen to me today.

    Yes, I noticed it too. All existing missions in my remaining stories (1 Hard, 3 Nightmare) give 28,710 XP. I know that was much higher prior to 2.1. What it was I can't recall, but definitely not that weird, seemingly arbitrary number.

    Story missions shouldn't be the best place for XP farming. It should be good, but not the best. That spot is for XP Exploration missions.

    The biggest impact on XP in mission rewards is the Gold Crates. Even once we make them replayable, you should find that the completion reward for a Story Mission is not so big as opening a gold crate after an exploration mission. Since Exploration missions are already replayable, they have by far the biggest impact.

    We met the goal of increasing overall income of Supplies and XP by a significant amount, but that required examining and modifying the rewards in other places. So yes, they have been changed.

    For the record, the release notes say that "The Exploration missions will more often reward the select resources". The word 'only' was never used. There are lots of times when we want to give some supplies or a piece of gear in an XP mission, for example. Removing them would make the game much less accessible for new or returning players, for example.

    You should find it takes significantly fewer Exploration missions to gather enough resources for an upgrade. The one-time rewards from the Story missions were never a big part of that reward.

    In case I'm missing something, why is a one-time reward more important that the one you collect over and over?

    Why would one not be upset about a Story Mission XP Reward that was 28,000 is now only 22,000?
    (That's a for instance amount)

    & to boot... All the players that already completed those Story Missions got that extra XP & now those that haven't will lose out...???

    Gas cost of 6 is too high for exploration missions. Lower it a bit to make them more attractive.

    They will never lower the gas prices for exploration missions. That would make gas boosters less attractive and go against what NG is trying to achieve namely making boosters the only viable way to play the game without seeing your finger nails grow between missions.

    I don't think @MizTy's point was in reference to XP farming or anything to do with the explorations missions. It was just that story mission XP rewards have been reduced and it doesn't make a whole lot of sense. Story missions tend to be more difficult and as a result should pay off better. Particularly at the Nightmare difficulty. And perhaps they still do in the long run. But I'm certain nothing has changed with the degree of difficulty of the missions, yet the reward has been reduced and it sounds like the only reasoning was so NG could rob Peter to pay Paul.

    31,900 XP was the my previous reward for completing Episode 12-14.

    They are both important to me. I spent last weekend trying to maximize the value of the weekend event (5 sec upgrades). I bought the boosters & ran A LOT of xp exploratory missions. The whole weekend I was frustrated & irritable bc I was running xp missions with 2x xp & getting dribbles of xp from reward crates. I was so pissed off about it I almost wrote a full on rant about it on the forums. But, alas, I restrained myself :blush:

    Over the weekend I also ran just a couple story missions. As I got killed on the last one I thought to myself, "next weekend when I buy the boosters again, I'll use my newly upgraded equipment & I'll finally be able to finish this episode on nightmare mode! Yea me!" And I was totally excited to do that on 2x xp.

    Then Monday rolls around & I discover NG has fixed the problem I had with the exploratory missions (yea NG!). I can't comment on the changes made there yet bc I've been playing mostly challenges since the update & won't farm the exploratory missions until the weekend. So I'm reserving judgements on those changes. But I did go to the story mission I was working on & did notice a big drop in the mission reward xp. And that pisses me off! When i have a goal in mind & NG randomly changes it with no warning & no good reason is makes me a very unhappy LabRat!

    There are more XP crates after an XP mission (on a "pick three") and more tomato crates for supplies missions but the amount in each crate has decreased. End result is, at best, a wash. Smoke and mirrors.

    I felt like story missions gave too much XP even before this update, TBH. I don't mean I felt I was progressing to quickly. I mean I actually hit my storage cap and was briefly annoyed.

    -I can't tell you exactly how much those missions have decreased by; it's company policy to not give specifics, and I honestly don't feel like the number would help you feel better about your situation. I do understand where you are coming from much better now, though, and I am sympathetic to your frustration. I hope you do still try out the booster, and use the time remaining on it to run an XP exploration mission or three and get the increased rewards there. Also, the TG shop should have more of what you are looking for in it soon, to go along with the timing of your booster use.

    I personally want to thank you for sharing your story; learning these specific experiences from the players will definitely help us make more informed plans in the future. I want to make those nightmare missions replayable someday, so you'll have every chance to exact your revenge on them [me?] over and over.

    Okay. I bought the gas & xp boosters & have been playing dozens of xp exploratory missions. Yes I noticed an increase in the number of crates that contained xp. (Yea @NG! )

    When I got bored of that, I farmed through as many challenges as possible. I need xp so badly I've even been injured bc I farmed too long (shhh. .. don't tell my relaxed, drama free guild I lost them stars!) :#

    I farmed more xp side missions. Finished upgrading my new blade with 100% Interrupt :p

    Then I went to where I left off in the Story Missions....

    Why do you persist in making these totally unecessary "balance changes" that rob us of our goals in the middle of the night? There was no reason for you to reduce our story mission rewards, you haven't even made them repeatable yet!

    You put a certain amount of xp in front of LabRat9024632 day after day as I worked through nightmare episodes. I was just upgrading new equipment in hopes to get through without getting killed. And you slashed the amount of shiny objects in which to celebrate my imminent victory?! This is the kind of stuff that Pisses Off Lab Rats!

    I guess you could look at it as..
    they took XP from Story Mission Rewards
    & placed it in the XP Exploration Mission Rewards?
    Just trying to see & make sense of it ......

    Wait...ok I'm a lil drunk so extra confused ...I know it's not company policy to talk about real $ .... But the amount of XP earned on a mission, whatever type, isn't that like "rules of the game"? Why can't that be revealed? It's stuff we need to know!! Not me of course cos I randomly farm without even counting stuff...but for the smart peeps, that info should be just game info...right?...     Well, you'll note that Helsinki is 10 or 11 hours ahead of the US west coast, so our working hours are in the middle of your night.

    The system behind the XP math is the part I can't discuss. It's not just a table of numbers. I'm sorry for the frustrations, but the system is giving us good results so far, and it looks like there won't be a follow up change to story XP. There will be new ways to gather XP before long, to add some variety to repeating only exploration missions.

    Replaying story missions is on the list, but further down.

    Well that shiny new piece of legendary equipment I was working on? It's gone. Poof! Vanished. I wonder what @DarkFaye would tell me about that?

    Sigh... I contacted customer support. Do I have a screen shot? Of course I don't! Why would I think to take a ss of something I'm playing a game on?

    Meanwhile I'm on gas & xp boosters & don't have the piece of equipment I'm trying to upgrade...

    On the bright side, I've run some supply missions & did notice the increase of food in crates. So thank you for that. I guess :(
