Scout - Are they really worth the upgrading

zeeblackzeeblack Member Posts: 1,200
I have been playing the game since it's launch in October. Initially each of my team had a scout, but now I rarely used them. I have an level 11 epic scout and I always skip him when upgrading my survivors.

While the other survivors can score multiple kills even the bruiser, the scout is limited to a single kill. I have killed 5 with a hunter, 3 with a warrior, 2 with a shooter, 4 with a bruiser and assault but it is always 1 with a scout. I think they are the weakest of all the survivors. I am just hoarding telephones and once I get any of the other classes, is tata to the scout

not always, you could kill 2 with a scout at any turn. if you have the trait 'swift strike', preferably a gold one you have 15% chance of having another attack.. not bad ;)

In my opinion, the right question to be asked is "What is scout really effective against?" and "what is its weakness?"

First question, Scout is really effective against armored zombies and boss zombies due to their attack points aka the brain stab. Scout is also having strong movement points and can move very swiftly. Combining with their weapon trait such as Swift Action (free attack), scout would have little issue taking out zombies with strong HP. They are also cheaper to upgrade and easily replaceable due to percentage on radio calls.

Second questions, as you already know, scout can only take out 1 target. That makes them pretty useless at high lvl where there are a lot of normal zombies at high lvl and the rate of re-spawning is 3 rounds.

In conclusion, whether it is upgrade the scout is really depend on how you play your game. I would not make them a priority to upgrade though. However, keep in mind, when there is a lvl where there are more boss and armoured zombies and there a lot of space to move, scout will become one of the best choice around. In addition, thinking forward, when pvp comes, you would imagine most players will send a team of hunters out against your team. I would think to counter a team of hunters, you can send a team of bruiser, scout and another survivor to counter. Bruiser can move ahead to take hit and once he'll get to the hunter, stunt them. Move in your scout to finish the hunter as they lost their movement points and sit there for you to kill fast like assassin. Anyway, though are just my opinions, don't take all of it as i don't know 100% yet how pvp would lay out.

    Good luck!

    Luck stacks with swift strike.
A scout with gold luck (15%) with a legendary weapon that has both gold luck and gold swift strike gives you a 45% chance for a free AP.

That said, it's a huge corner case since it's really, really difficult to get all that, and I still don't use scouts. Warriors are generally just more effective.

PVP is going to be dominated by shooters and hunters.
Oh, you're going to try and run up to me and stab me? Good thing I'm on overwatch and have interrupt.
Now your poor little scout is standing out in the open to be blasted to bits.

@zoson we are not sure 100% percent of PvP would lay out. But yes, that is most people would think so. PvP would be dominate with shooters and hunters. That would be intuitive. Don't let caught by surprise though. There are risk. Risk of a high lvl bruisers get to your hunters. They stunt you and your hunters would be history.

i good scout is great on the prison level "the iron railing". just sending hunters and shooters on the later missions is pretty much suicide.

@Andrius As I mentioned, interrupt weapons and overwatch. No melee class would even be able to approach.

@zoson i heard you but "would" is the key words. You will hear it when people lost their hunters. As that said, I still prefer to bring Hunters to PvP. However, we don't know the mechanic yet. I have the feeling NG will somehow make scout and bruiser to become a tactical force in PvP.

    @andrius
Sorry, in this case you are incorrect. You are mistaking 'would' for 'could'. My statement indicates that it's not even a possibility.
  • AndriusAndrius Member Posts: 783
@zoson Don't say sorry. You are not wrong. Well, let's just wait to see how PvP would turn on. Know your enemy and know yourself. Don't underestimate or overestimate, That's all.

@WastelandDan What you said is true! but like any other games, it always biased toward the best units in the game. the person with the strongest unit, often wins. The question is then how do you adapt to such environment? how do you field your team against the strongest units? Even you would lose, how are you going to benefit from it?

it depends on the map.. right now, we dont know what the outpost map looks like.. it may have lots of stuffs where a scout could hide. or a blind spot where a scout could approach the enemy undetected. or it could just be a big empty room..
