You might have to kill my guys twice?? (Re: Carl trait)

At the sake of screwing myself over since I possess Carl at legendary, does this mean there's a chance opponents might have to kill my Defender crew twice? Lead-trait is a chance to survive dying (lethal attack) for EACH of my survivors...Is that even legitimate?...or appropriate?
And are we going to see Carl in every outpost in future times?

It's more than just an extra hit in Outposts when we're dealing with a 7-turn limit shootout, and things like bullet-dodge/bullet-proof can already still 'proc' separately so this would just be an additional element to avoid dying.
I wish his lead-trait would only apply to challenges/missions, but not outposts.
But time will tell....
