New 2.0 challenge is still a boring grind

Let me start by saying that I like the new challenge format :)

My only gripe with 2.0 so far is that the challenges were previously just a long A$$ boring grind
Having to repeat the same maps over and over again = incredibly boring.
I was hoping the challenges would be shortened

So if I hit 370 stars before the update, I would roughly have to play this many maps
370 / 3 = 123
Assuming I had no quest or got 3 stars on all the maps

Update 2.0 seems to be the same grind as before
Every level has to be repeated 3 times, so 6 maps x 3 = 18 times for each level

I started on level 13 and currently am at level 20
So that's (8 levels x 18 maps = 108) maps

And I am not done yet, it seems I will be going onto level 21 today
Or I could just say eff it go do something else that is way more fun than grinding away on a tablet

But I feel obligated to my guild to do my best, so I will trudge on I guess

I was hoping the new challenge could be knocked out in a couple days

Just my .02
I know many of you like to grind away on a mobile device

    No.
The first levels are just 1 time.
    SO, you did 5 X 6 and 3 X 18 = 84

Doesn't take away your point btw. It shows you are so bored of it that 84 feels like 108 :p

Whatever it was, I was not counting at the beginning of the challenge
It still is a boring grind to me

I rather like the season 7 missions on Monday that I can knock out in a day
I was hoping the new challenge would be shortened

I am not complaining about the new format, I think it is awesome
But why am I having to repeat the levels 3 times?

Like I said above. I was not counting at the beginning
It does not matter because I am currently having to repeat maps 18 times before advancing a level

I do agree that at the intermediate levels, it's more of a grind because you repeat the same levels over and over again. However, the rewards are SO much better and the gas costs are also significantly lower, which really appeals to me.

If I weren't playing challenge missions, I'd be playing exploration missions to grind for XP and better gear. Instead of using 6 gas and playing the same maps over and over again, I'm only using 4 gas (and playing the same maps). On top of the normal after-mission rewards, there are all of the nice TG and crate rewards as well. For me, it's a win-win.

I come from a non-competitive guild, so our perspective might be a bit different. There's no sense of "keep playing until you literally can't anymore" in my guild, which allows people to play at their own pace. I can understand how it might seem like more of a grind if you're competing for the leaderboard.

I agree with all of that
I guess I am just gonna have to stop when I can't take the grinding any more
Which will be later today :)

The rewards are better. More TG, more tokens, more radios...and theoreticly some nice weapons (which doesn´t work for me...getting only xp)...

But yes...the rest is pretty much the same and I guess it will stop many of my guildmates from playing, since they´re pretty much bored of the challenge

@EL34xyz and only 2.5 days into the challenge, you'll be done with it (: how many days did you play in the old challenge?. Seems like challenges will take up less of your time and gas, to do other things. Another aspect of the new update for many players

Yeah, I do agree that the old challenge was more of a boring grind
I guess I was hoping to be able to knock out the new challenge in a couple days
Right now I have 437 stars, but I am looking at one of my guild mates who gets about the same # of stars as me usually
And he has 567 stars on a gas booster

So That means I am not anywhere near done if I want to do my part in the guild

My srvrs are levl 19 and so I had to start on level 13

I would like to start at level 17 and earn more stars by skipping those lower levels
The grind time could be reduced even further

I guess I am getting a bit burned out having played this game for over a year
Not that I want to go play other games,
I only have time for one game because I have so many other fun hobbies and stuff that I like to do

    @szgerg77

I like the "Skip lower level button idea"

If you choose to skip a lower level, you should be able to make it up with a higher reward
I would like to start just two levels below my srvr levels and skip the levels below that

@EL34xyz well you are only basically 3 rounds of play behind that guildmate your speaking of. 3x18=54 + 3x20=60(bonus round stars) for 114.

And he used a gas booster also, where you didn't I'm guessin

Correct, no gas booster for me on this challenge

I have to say that while I find the new challenge superior in superior in just about every point that was changed, I do have to agree with the OP. The one key thing that hasn't changed is that we're still stuck playing the same maps dozens and dozens of times. At least the rewards are better now, but it's still tedious.

Yes, I do like the new challenge format
I just want to skip lower levels and maybe start two levels below my srvrs

I do agree it's an improvement in every way. I just wish the same rewards could be condensed over a bit less repetition, maybe compensated by increased gas prices or something.

    @Xcaliber

So you have a good chance of preparing your strategies for when things get hairy

    I don't need to prepare a strategy
I have played the same maps a bazillion times over the last year or so

All I am saying is that I would like to skip even more of the boring lower levels
Starting two levels below would be fine with me

That's what I'm saying, impossible to make happy all types of players. You are a long time, experienced player and obviously fed up with grind.

But there's another group of players that are merely starting compared to us, and to them this kind of challenge is really... Challenging and exciting.

If you don't take my word, take a look at the results of the poll for the weekend event. Most of the forum participants, me included, voted for the Herd. But ingame, Double Supplies took the lead. That means that there are many, many more players growing in the game and NG does just the right thing taking them also in account.

And for playing the same maps over and over... Don't know if there's much to do about that, unless devs could implement a procedural map generator. But seeing the fiasco that was No Man's Sky, I doubt it's a viable path.

    @Xcaliber

Yeah, I get it that many players want different things depending on their level
And yes, I voted for the Herd also :)

What if you could pick any level to start playing at ?
Say I wanted to start playing at level 20 and go up from there?

Then, if I had time and wanted to go back and pick up some more stars by doing the lower levels, I could do that
That would be something that would take care of every level players needs.

Instead of making us start 6 levels below and have to complete each level before advancing
Make it so you could pick any level to play in any order you wanted
    Just throwing out ideas

I get your point but in that case I'm not sure if it still would be a challenge. It sounds more like a set of just plain scavenging missions, with the twists of fatties or armored.

Even so, maybe NG is open to further refinement of some of the concepts of the Challenge.

The challenge for me is to not be bored out of my mind

If things went the way you seem to want, my guess is you would be bored in half a day. How further can you go in RSL before it gets frustrating?

It's more about repeating the same thing over and over and over and over
    That's the boring part

I really like the season 7 missions on Monday
I do them in one day and look forward to doing them again next Monday

It's simple, let people play any level they want and not force them to do it sequentially

If I want to play levels 20 to 23 and then stop, that's my choice
You can play it how you like and have it your way
