Armoured Walker damage mechanic

Anyone know how the armoured walker damage mechanics works?

I have seen advice about using the piercing trait which would imply that the armour causes more body shots ... is this correct or is it just a % reduction in ranged damage or combination of both?

Does the piercing increase damage by more non-body shots (reduced by the armour) or does the piercing eliminate the armour damage reduction (when it procs)?

    @TWDSkutter Armored results in more Bodyshots from ranged attacks.
    If you use Piercing, you can make normal damage (no Bodyshot).
    I have one Hunter with 30% Piercing. If I use him in outposts, he is able to kill armored level 19 with one shot.

    I'm curious to know this too

    My understanding of ranged vs armored

    Possible results:

    1) critical hit - full critical damage, no reduction, ignores armor
    2) normal hit - 50% damage (equivalent to a body shot)
    3) body shot - 50% x 50% = 25% damage??

    So the description of piercing is to reduce the chance of a body shot, but don't know if that means reduce the chance of 3) happening or both 2) and 3)

    Or as DavidH79 said, can piercing allow you to bypass the 50% reduction, making the attack equivalent to a melee attack?

    Would be useful if someone can clarify this as it would allow for a better tactical approach. I'm not sure a non- body shot will give 100% as I don't remember seeing anything like this occurring but I might be wrong.

    Isn't it that ranged survivors just result in 100% body shots from normal attacks? They can still do criticals and piercing can come into effect, but they don't technically do "less" damage than melee, it's just that everything is a body shot and body shots are 50% damage.

    crit hit with piercing will result in crit hit!

    crit hit without piercing will result in a regular attack, so you need a lot of luck that piercing is activated when yiu do a crit hit fir full power
