  You can manage the guild when the leader is away. Accept, kick out members, promote others to elders.

  I agree with what @zbot said. If you promote someone to elder you give them the same abilities that all elders have. That includes kicking anyone (even yourself) out of the guild.

  Although it would be nice if elders got some type if boost. I'd even forgo the ability to accept people into the guild if it meant I got some type if boost.
  
  Would work well in rewarding players each week as an elder for good performance

  @Yrcanos I have handed leadership over to another elder so that they could pay for the advertisement, but I wouldn't recommend doing that unless you trust that elder to pass leadership back to you. In my case it was my hubby so no problem there lol.

  The guild I'm in everyone is an elder except for the leader. Kinda makes it pointless to be an elder imho.

  I get more total stars every single challenge then the leader by far every week and they still won't promote me to elder.

  Problem with making someone an elder is that they can kick members.
  
  We used to have an elder who kicked members and we didn't know who it was (you couldn't see it back then). You can never be sure people will not do stupid stuff once you give them power.
  
  Would be nice to have some kind of honorary ranks. (Pretty sure that has been brought up before...)

  We used to have an elder (Eddie Grimes) who kicked all members from our guild too. At Valentines Day! Lol
  
  But we know who it was, because it appears in the ingame chat.
  
  In any case, I am still promote my best players in each challenge.

  I did and no response . I've said that I would never promote or kick anyone out without hefes permission . His guild his rules .

  Join Guild Standards for a chance to become a guild elder. Currently my guild has one.. But we have competitions to become one if you are highest star count earner.. I would like to see some extra rewards, boost for my guild members when become elder as a incentive.. As other than rank its pretty pointless otherwise.
