I think I know what happened. Everyone's "defenders" got fed up with standing around waiting to be attacked. They figured there was better things that they could be doing rather than literally waiting to be attacked. Day in and day out they stand in their 9' by 7' zone guarding some minimal amount of TG's that if someone were to come and take their team wouldn't even lose.
So yesterday afternoon, seeing that nobody had come for nearly 12 hours they threw down their weapons and walked away. This is why we keep "searching" for opponents but are unable to find any. All defenders have boycotted defending an outpost that has no need to be defended since the TG's just magically re-appear 8 hours later after they've been stolen.
I hope this helps explain why outposts are unplayable. We need to find a way to motivate the defenders to stand around again waiting to be attacked. We need to come together as a community to #MakeDefendersGreatAgain!!!

Also notice how outpost attack/defence has no rhyme or reason -- I could not defeat lv16 with my lv20 best survivors - yet my level 20 defenders were massacred by lv 15
@DLich Agree, #MakeDefendersGreatAgain. My only problem(once it will work again) is unwanted influence increase, because every time I #MakeDefendersGreatAgain, many ppl that come for visit are not able to deal with them and thus my influence is rising. Hope it will stop somewhere with about +- same amount of win/loss. No seriously, Im not happy about this issue, as my planned evening/morning raiding was turned into several scavenge runs with insignificant profit and my hoarding of TGs was stopped. Maybe "raiding issue" was more intended than not. At least, for some time, it partly solved TGs hoarding. And thats what NG wants...
Despite my earlier comments, we will be going in to maintenance tomorrow at 5 AM UTC to perform fixes to issues such as Outposts matchmaking, account linking and various connection issues. Sorry about this folks.
