The gears dilemna : Legendary 23 or common 24 ?

The 2.5 offers new opportunities ... scavenging the lands, I've found mostly common 3* gears, lvl 21 that goes to 24, with interresting (but weak) traits.
So the question is : shall we prefer upgrading common gear to the higher lvl 24, or is it better to remain with most of our survivors geared with legendary lvl 23 ? I'd like to have your point of view in here

Leg 20 is always better than rare 21 because of the better % on traits.

@CRUSH ok so in ur opinion, even upgraded to lvl 24 any green common gear 3 star should be weaker than leg 23 ?
Thanx for your view on that. Does lvl of traits always prevails to lvl of gears ?

The basic power of rare 21 is about the same like leg 20. Guess, leveling wouldn't change anything.

Common gear only has 1 upgrade so max it will get to at base Lvl 21 is max Lvl 22

Not even a dilemma. Legendary 23 over rare 24. Save your XP and time and get better traits with a comparable amount of damage/health.

@dlich the statement of @CRUSH was right, I meant 3 stars= green=rare , found lots of it for each class, base lvl21, so each of its 3 traits makes +1 lvl, and it leads to a max lvl of 24 .
But as @JayZ stated , legendary 23 high traits on a gear is always better than the health/damage you gain only upgrading a 3stars gear to +1 , 23 to 24 .
- I'll always prefer my legendary katana 135° lvl 23 than a rare one with just 90° (it kills more walkers in 1 strike;) -

For the rest I still found a few leg 21 base gear, and that will rock (as soon as my workshop to upgrade them lol)

BTW , I'm looking for a new guild to go for next challenge, if someone needs my services...

If you are currently playing with lvl 23 (20 base) gear that's legendary I would wait until you find lvl 21 base leg gear with better traits before upgrading.

2 Gold and 1 Silver compared to 2 Silver and 1 Bronze traits alone are a disadvantage. The extra 200 or so damage by being a level higher WILL NOT outweigh this.

Here's the best way I can explain it. Let's say you're a smoker. In new york it's like $11 a pack of cigarettes. Let's say you smoke Newports.

Now let's say you happen to see a different brand has a $2 off sticker on the packaging. Let's say Marlboro Menthols.

So you decide to buy the Marlboro Menthols since you'll be saving $2 compared to buying your usual brand. Then you realize they taste disgusting and to save $2 you now have 20 harsh, gross, not your brand smokes.

Ok so I don't know where I'm going with this. I have mentioned in other threads in the past I am terrible with analogies but the moral of this story is don't settle for less than quality

** I do not smoke and find it disgusting BUT as an ex smoker this exact scenario has happened to me.

Thanks @DLich , I'm an ex-smoker too, and this analogy helps me a lot to remember
that I don't wanna go back smoking. Ever.
So am gonna scrap all these poor 3stars lvl21-based gears, and see what future offers.
Just gonna keep that 3 stars flamethrower to see what it can do at lvl24
