The System Is Rigged

An Opinion Piece:

It's Jackpot Weekend. One of my least favorite weekend events that this game has to offer. Mostly because I'm caught in the monotonous "Wednesday-thru-Sunday-cycle-of-grinding-on-the-weekly-challenge". If by the weekend event, you haven't gotten to an RSL that is equal to your current survivors, any jackpots that you do happen to get that just so happen to have legendary equipment are wasted because they are significantly lower levels that any survivor you have and effectively useless. So, to the scrap pile they go. And, let's be real here: the only thing that people are looking for in the jackpots are golden jackpots with legendary equipment in them.

But, I guess I should just be thankful for the weekend event, right? Next Games doesn't have to offer me any weekend event. Just like they don't have to give us any community event or prize. That's what people like to say here on the forum when you are unhappy with something and want to express your disdain for things like this. I've got to be honest. I do see both sides of the story here. On the one hand, Next Games doesn't need to offer offer the players anything for playing the game. "Hey, you killed a billion walkers in the community event? Be happy that they even gave you an epic weapon just for playing the game." "Before the weekly challenges didn't even offer you tokens. Be happy."

However, on the other hand, in my perspective, things like that are necessary to keep a majority of their base (which I assume are Free to Play players) satisfied and also motivated giving them something to work towards. Free to Play players feel as though they deserve every chance to have the opportunities that the Pay to Play gamers have as well. That's why people feel so cheated when for a community even, they're offered only an Epic weapon when people who pay to play can just outright buy that weapon whenever they choose.

This isn't only about Free to Play players not being afforded the same opportunities as those who play. This is also about those who pay to play as well. While this is only anecdotal, I bet the players of this forum could make a compendium of anecdotal experiences, enough to say "hey, this isn't just a gut feeling," or "maybe I'm not just imagining things feeling different from before the update."

You see, because I have anecdotal experiences of my own throughout my entire year and a half of playing this game - initially as a Free to Play player, however, I was tempted to spend money the further I progressed. During my time playing, I've noticed things that didn't quite feel right to me. For example, why during 1-minute gas times does it feel like I was getting more gas in post-mission rewards crates and in the trade goods store? Why do players on the forum feel like the radio phone drop rates have decreased contrary to what we have been told by staff? Why do we feel like the "better chance of hero tokens" radio call doesn't really give us a better chance? Why do we feel that is wrong when we make radio calls and get duplicate/multiple heroes as the options?

Most recently for me, I have been playing with a gas booster all day, I have been playing dozens and dozens of missions - I would even recon going into the hundreds - and during this Jackpot Weekend, not once have I received a single Golden Jackpot. What is the point of playing if I can't even reach the pinnacle of what is being offered?

You can chalk all the things I mentioned up to RNG, but it just doesn't add up. That's the reasoning that Next Games gives. But you can't expect me to just take that at face-value. Although, I do understand that Next Games said they do not offer their data up, and justifiably so. But you can't expect me to take anything at face value from a company who releases a Golden Weapon for sale only to nerf it after it's been released. Nor from a company who will allow the purchase of weapons, knowing full well, that an update is coming out soon and it may futile to even buy weapons. I can't trust a company who will come out with an update that while increasing the level of your hospital increases the healing time of survivors. I can't trust a company that instead of calling it an across the board survivor nerf (save for a few types), just calls it a walker buff. We just can't trust it.

So, while I can't prove that there are shady things going on, my gut is telling me that there are some things going on behind the scenes that just don't feel right. And while I can't prove anything, Next Games isn't doing anything to disprove people's doubts aside from a few people going on a forum saying "working as intended." More transparency is all the people here want. And being on the forum, by default the most expressive players on the game, we deserve transparency. And until I feel things are more transparent than they should be. I, and other players, will continue thinking that The System Is Rigged, and that's just the way Next Games likes it.

Let's just say NG doesn't care how they get their money.
Just as long as they get it.

They have no morals, they only pretend to.

Same for me. That's why I never ever spend gold to open more crates. Even if it's a gold jackpot.

Yeah, it seems as though a lot of people were disappointed with this event and continue to be

There is no doubt that NG plays with the drop rates regulary. That's not a feeling that's a fact. Everyone who takes notes of his mission drops can tell that. So that means everythings fine with your guts ;)

We don't touch drop rates nearly as often as you'd think. They've been designed when this game was first developed for a reason and changing them unnecessarily would cause plenty of unwanted knock-on effects.

That's very easy to say, pretty much impossible to prove. As much as I'd like to take you at your word, NG doesn't have a stellar track record of instilling trust in it's player base. Please know- this isn't an attack on you @Teeceezy. It's just that:

    1) All the times we have heard "working as intended" when things are clearly not and have been proven not to be...
    2) All the times you have posted incorrect info (not your fault, you post the info you are given)...
    3) All the times things have been added when it is blatantly obvious they have not been adequately tested...

...I could go on, but you get the idea...

All these things add up to lack of trust that the NG team has an accurate grasp of what is going on with this game. Maybe they don't change drop rates, but how do we (or NG) know that the drop rates are "working as intended"?

I hate this game more and more everyday from you jackpot weekend that the best thing I got was two radios, to it taking 4 gallons of gas to go scavenge, where am I driving to the next state over, 4x25/per gallon=100 miles, to the skill nerf when stacking heroes on you team. Why should a HERO with 5 traits only get to use 4 during play when having a team of heroes. FIX THE GAME

And besides @Teeceezy, you clearly missed the point of the post with your dismissive. The heart of what this post is saying is that the track record of NG has made a lot of what you say untrustworthy and the lack of transparency is the reason

I'm going to drop in at this point to remind people to keep thing civil. Feedback on No Man's Land is greatly encouraged; one of the great things about the forums is that it gives us a direct dialogue with the community, you all, so we can learn from your feedback and make the game better. However, if your feedback stops being constructive and becomes personal then that's problematic for everyone. We're constantly reviewing the way we communicate about No Man's Land with the community, both on the forum and off, and the feedback that you provide informs this change, as well as in game change.

In that respect, we know that trust is important. @Teeceezy is working with the best information available to him (which he gets that info straight from the source) and would never intentionally mislead you with incorrect information. Part of his job is to act as the voice of the forums here at Next Games and he works hard every day doing that. So please, keep things civil, and keep rule #2 in mind and 'don’t argue openly with a moderator or admin. If you have a beef, take it to private messages'.

Please tell me how the response to a well thought-out, detailed critique containing legitimate points with a link to a Wikipedia article of Cognitive Biases is constructive? Essentially telling someone "it's all in your head," is not conducive to a proper dialogue. I'm glad that you posted a reminder about being constructive because clearly the staff needs a lesson in that. No one is arguing, this is a discussion.

Well gindy refer to Teeceezy comment, and you can see that I agreed with it. Therefore a disagree to the former is reasonable.

I would highly recommend reading through more than two threads, or looking into new prescription eyeglasses then, I see a lot more of the forum community disagreeing with comments than that. If you personally have a grievance with me, message me about it. Kind of feels like you're looking for "likes". And there is also no penalty for a "disagree" not sure why anyone is ruffled over it!

In a lot of threads on this forum many user complain about the lack of response by the moderators and the team of NG. Also they denounce the lack of transparency concerning game mechanism.

I, for myself, do absolutely understand those complains and denounces. It is very exhausting and costs a lot of time, effort and gold to find out how the game is working in so many ways (i.g. new traits, over watch, etc.).

Ive been asking NG in so many threads why they refuse to be more transparent and willing to respond. Guess what! Till today I didn't receive any reply.

Here is my petition to all other forum users:

What are your suggestions to make NG and the moderators to be more transparent and to better their communication with us users?

    Any suggestion is appreciated.

    PS @NG and all moderators:
I still love this game. Therefore I'd love to see an improvement on these issues here in the forum.
