I can't be 100% because I haven't seen your badge but you said @Boruto 's badge is +17 but in fact it's +17%
I'm guessing your badge is a flat +229
As for your question about something magical happening, the only bonus feature with badges is when you match 4 or more of the same set.
(You'll be able to find more info on that in other threads)
