Challenge RSL

If I have 2 level 20 survivors (or a level 20, a level 19) and the rest are level 18 and below, is my RSL for Challenge based on level 18?

My understanding is that you need 3 or more survivors of a certain level for your RSL to move up. Is this correct?

I would be based on lvl 19...
Because you would have to have had 3 lvl 19's at some point to have those two 20's

It's based on your 3 top survivors...

this is a good question. what if I made an account and just leveled up 2 survivors the whole time? what happens if I have 2 level 20s and the rest are level 3. where would I start?
  • CBgaming1969CBgaming1969 Member Posts: 1,359
    Then I would suspect 3...

As long as the 2 20's were the only ones you ever leveled up. But that lvl would really slogg u down in a muddy challenge

I got the following clarification from the help desk. It's much different than what you thought!!!

    -----------------

The difficulty set for the Challenge is worked out by adding up the levels of your top three survivors and then dividing that by three.

So in your first example: 20+19+18= 57/3=19 In this instance your RSL is 19.

And the second: 20+20+18=58/3=19.3* Since this is above 19 the RSL is rounded up and it would be set to RSL 20.

Hope that helps, and you can use that to help you work out future RSL's too.

    ???
I have more than three 24s.
Based on that formula my starting level would be 24x3/3=24
    My starting level is 17
    Now I am confused.

Yea, it doesn't mean you start at 24. Just that the math calculates your level as 24 to base the RSL off of.

Like if you had 24, 24, 23 you might have thought your RSL was based off 23 because you only had two survivors at 24. The reality is your RSL would be 24 because the average of the 3 is 23.67 which rounds up to 24.

    Make sense?

Anyways that's what the Help Desk told me. Because I currently have 19, 19, 18 and I thought my RSL was based off 18. It's actually 19 because the average of the three is 18.67.

I'm upgrading one of them to 20, so I will
Have 20, 19, 18 and my RSL shouldn't change because the average is 19.

If I upgrade to 20, 20, 18 or 20, 19, 19 then my RSL calculation will move up to being based off 20 because the average will become 19.3, which gets rounded up to 20 (according to help desk)

I guess now I get it.
It's not the calculation from which RSL you start.
It's the calculation, where the calculation from the starting RSL starts.

I'm pretty sure @valereee has been at the forefront of seeking a definitive answer to this, but unfortunately, to no avail. Unless I missed something, we still don't really know for sure how to figure out what your starting RSL should be.

I just gave you the answer that was specifically given to me by help desk. What else do you need to know?

Once you know what your RSL is then you can calculate your starting level by looking at the Update Announcement. It's obviously worded very poorly.

    ---------------

Starting with the Challenge on the 7th of March, the format of the challenge will follow these rules:

    - Starting Difficulty is based on the level of your three highest Survivors, but a little higher than previously.
    - Players with three survivors at Level 10 will start at Difficulty 8
    - Players with three survivors at Level 15 will start at Difficulty 11
    - Players with three survivors at Level 20 will start at Difficulty 15
    - Players with three survivors of Level 23 or higher will start at Difficulty 17
    - Difficulty will raise after each Round for each of the first 1-5 Rounds, at which time the Difficulty will then increase once every two Rounds.
    - Difficulties of 27 onwards last three Rounds each.
    - Round Passes are awarded for every fifth Round advance.

    --------------

So based on the info above and what was told to me by Help Desk, if your RSL is calculated to be 16 (by calculating the average level of your top 3 survivors), your starting difficulty is 12.

If your RSL is 17, your starting difficulty is 13. If RSL is 18, then starting difficulty is 14.

Of course, from there you add in your round passes.

Like I said, they worded their update Announcement very poorly so that it's confusing and misleading.

I'm still not 100% sure though because my starting difficulty was 14, even though I was told by help desk my RSL is 19, which should put me at difficulty 15

Yea I think the information I've been given is off. I'm 19, 19, 18 and I started at 14. There's something not right and it surely doesn't align with the update Announcement.

I've asked help desk again for clarification.

Your 20, 20, 19 is supposed to start you off at 15 if it was based on the average of your top 3!!

    Uh oh...

Seems (some variation of) the old formula is happening again..

    X = Highest lvl survivor
Y = Second highest lvl survivor
Z = Third highest lvl survivor

    Formula was

(X+Y+Z) multiplied by .7 then divided by 3 then add 1 and remove remainder

    22+22+22 = 66; 66 x .7 = 46.2 / 3 = 15.4 + 1 = 16.4 (rounded up) to 17
    20+19+19 = 58; 58 x .7 = 40.6 / 3 = 13.53 + 1 = 14.53 (remove remainder) to 14
    23+23+23 = 69; 69 x .7 = 48.3 / 3 = 16.1 + 1 = 17.1 (remove remainder) to 17
    24+24+24 = 72; 72 x .7 = 50.4 / 3 = 16.8 + 1 = 17.8 (remove remainder) to 17

Everything fits the old model except 3 lvl 22's... But support confirmed they'd start at 17 as intended.

I wanna know where lvl 24's are gonna end up next week lol

if you start at level 17 because you have 3 survivors 23 when you reach level 22 you have 1 round level 22 or 2 rounds level 22?

    @warlordf
First five rounds are single so yes if you start at difficulty 17, 22 will be two rounds
    (17,18,19,20,21 single rounds)

And because there was no announced increased challenge start for 21s, I made a few more 21s with the help of Maggie. Big mistake ...

I saw the revised listing on the other thread AFTER discovering the level 16 start ... doh

@skoshi are you saying that's a direct quote from the help desk? Because if it is, they're using RSL in a very different way than they've always used it. RSL stands for 'Recommended Survivor Level' and was in a recent update changed to 'Difficulty'. 'Recommended Survivor Level' never had anything to do with your survivors -- it was used to describe the level of walkers you'll be facing in a mission.

If this is a direct quote from the help desk, they seem to be using 'RSL' to describe your calculated survivor level for purposes of determining that difficulty level. Which is extremely troubling as it makes me wonder if the help desk know what they're talking about.

At any rate, if the rest of it is accurate, what they seem to be saying is that our difficulty level is determined by averaging our top three survivors. Which isn't surprising since that's what it had been in the past, but again why the announcement couldn't just SAY that is beyond me.

@valereee yes, that was a direct quote from Help Desk. And yes, I figured out they don’t know what they’re talking about and the simple average calculation they gave me is inaccurate. I criticized them in general for their poorly worded and misleading Announcement. I suggested that they correct it but doubt they will do it.
