Traits. One place to bind them all.

I wonder if everyone who has an opinion would be willing to post their thoughts in a single thread about traits, instead of tracking down all the countless threads on the topic?

Not a thread for debates, or arguments, just a place people, like myself, can return to for advise. I have short term memory issues and always have to come back and scan threads trying to remember what traits I am told others recommend. I take all of them into consideration and that's why now, at level 20, I'm basically going to be starting over with just about all my survivors, except hero's obviously.

So, without further ado, I ask if others would be kind enough to share there ideas.

These aren't all what I have, but probably my ideals. However, I do keep multiple combinations for different scenarios. And it's harder now that new traits exist. Lucky or Iron Skin can be exchanged on any ranged for revenge, as long as it's not a Freemen map. Ruthless is great on scouts and warriors, but not necessary for a great survivor. Badges can make up for most weak spots. I don't throw away anyone with Bullet Dodge if the other 4 traits are good.

    Assault:

    Trait 1: Iron Skin
    Trait 2: Dodge
    Trait 3: Marksman
    Trait 4: Luck
    Trait 5: Defensive Stance

    Scout:

    Trait 1: Iron Skin
    Trait 2: Dodge
    Trait 3: Retaliate
    Trait 4: Ruthless
Trait 5: Luck or Power Strike

    Warrior:

    same as scout

    Bruiser:

    Trait 1: Iron Skin
    Trait 2: Defensive Stance
Trait 3: Power Strike or Strong
    Trait 4: Retalitate
    Trait 5: Punish

    Hunter: same as shooter

    Shooter:

    Trait 1: Marksman
    Trait 2: Sure Shot
    Trait 3: Ruthless
    Trait 4: Luck or Revenge
    Trait 5: Dodge

There are also combos like the following that are good for Interrupt weapons, with a sentry/overwatch kind of style:

    Scout:

    Trait 1: Iron Skin
    Trait 2: Dodge or Ruthless
    Trait 3: Vigilant
    Trait 4: Power Strike
    Trait 5: Defensive Stance

What is the point of NG selling weapons with traits that are not useful together. Like the rifle with exploding rounds, wide bore and luck. I get that luck increases the 50/50 chance of bullets exploding but there have been plenty of weapons with traits like wide bore, lethal and luck. I was once told by an NG rep that weapon traits synergies with character traits as well but I'm not sure how true that is. Can anyone confirm that or are weapons with luck, 100% interupt, lethal and wide spread really are worthless in a lot of cases

@JBreeze38 Luck on weapons stacks with luck on survivors and affects survivor traits as well as weapon traits. Long stated by NG devs, seems to be backed up by the lengthy analysis of various players.

As for why there might be traits that aren't useful together, this is a freemium game, so it's a random selection and some trait combos will just be more useful than others. If you want the best combinations, you either wait till they show up or you pay to get more chances.

@Boukephalos Thanks for the response backing up claims from devs regarding luck stacking with survivor traits. That's really the answer I was looking for. I've always been skeptical about that. My statement/ question regarding weapons with offsetting traits was regarding the ones for sale in bundles as opposed to the trade shop. Pretty much rhetorical though I suppose. Thanks for the feedback.

I agreed with most options here except...

    Hunters and shooters

    MARKSMAN
    RUTHLESS
    SURE SHOT
    VIGILANT
    LUCKY

(Sub VIGILANT for Revenge if you like to torture yourself)

Hunters and shooters don't need defensive traits unless you are a very, VERY sloppy player.

But vigilant is a good trait? Why some people say that trait is useless?
  • ATLAS-ZATLAS-Z Member Posts: 2,052
On hunters and shooters, vigilant will always get more use than Iron Skin, Dodge, Bullet Dodge, and Defensive stance.

If someone cares to correct me, I don't mind being taken to school

    Nice list!

Here are the areas that I differ due to my playstyle:

Assaults - For me both Lucky and Revenge are essential because my Assaults are usually rolling with Sasha and I want her leader trait to trigger as often as possible. My Assaults are usually relatively mobile so Sure Shot isn't a must have.

Scouts - Love Power Strike in concert with Razor and the fact that I hide behind a Bruiser usually and attack at an angle. My Scouts are almost always built for max damage so Retaliate doesn't interest me much on Scouts. If I need a tanking Scout I'll usually use Gabe.
