15 phones for crappy survivors

Is anyone else tired of saving up 15 phones week after week only to get "rare" survivors. I mean I haven't had a good survivor for like 2 or 3 months. I'm getting really tired of this, the only reason I have any good survivors at all is because I got them when It only cost 1 phone.

  • I get best results with 5 radios

@waylon We were told more than a month ago by @OldGoth that they are working on a change to the way the radio calls work. I've asked several times for a status update but the radio has been silent (see what I did there? :)

The last legendary I received for 15 phones was taken away from me along with another survivor and gold pieces when tech support said my game did not save. All I received back was a wayward bundle of crap!!! This Bites!!!
I collected more than one hundred twenty phones. Made 7 or 8 calls and received only three star survivors. This was a huge disappointment. I'm still pissed

The last 30 radio i saved, used them on the 15 call and got 1) 9-18 legendary hunter and 1) 11 - 18 legendary shooter which iam in the process of training up, so expect to see them in my outpost in 2023

I used around 300 radios recently and no legendary survivor. Just 3 epic worth to keep but in overall nice crap.

  • I have since November gotten 3 legendary. Since I've failed time & time again to have any luck, I just use 1 calls and reject them for XP. I average around 3-5k per call. It helps build up the survivors I do have.

I think the combination of level caps on survivors and difficulty in landing a legendary or even epic hurts.

When i first started playing i immediately landed two epics who had a cap of level 9. Since then, ive gotten junk and the cost of upgrading a 1 or 2 star doesnt make sense when you start getting into the higher levels...being that theyll just be junked after the next few missions

2 of 3 times i get a BRUISER!!! I hate them!!! Its really random the sistem? Mmmmm

you think that's bad? I have been playing this game since just after it's release. I have NEVER gotten a single legendary survivor of any level. I almost always do 15x calls, although a few times I gave in to temptation and did a few 5x calls, because I am just desperate for a functional survivor. All the decent/rare survivors I keep getting are capped a couple levels below what is suggested for the story missions unless they are uncommons. I am tired of grinding away to upgrade upgrade upgrade when I don't even get to play a story mission or two despite having everything I can maxed out. I'd quit the game, but I'm bored at home sick and I haven't found anything to replace it yet.

Oh, and, also, I thought I was going crazy or just mistaken when I got an uncommon out of a 15x call, but then I see other people say they have as well. It has happened to me 3 times now.

15x calls should always give 3 star or better. If you received anything less for real, you should report that.

By the way, 3 star characters are not bad. I use a level 16 3 star assault quite a bit.

Tip: Save your radios for the better chance events. I have received quite a few 4 star and 2 5 star during these events. Note that the 5 star should be very rare...that's why they are 5 star.

I have made reports. I have never received a ticket or any response.

...and even during the special events...the best I have done is a couple of epic warriors, which are maxed out and no longer effective enough to finish the game. They slaughter everything in the exploration missions, though, because I have upgraded their weapons to take wider swipes, mostly.

It seems completely random. Last week I did 3-15 calls and got legendary assault, epic hunter, epic shooter all maxed at 16 or 17 (which is good for me now). I have had other times where I've done 10-15 calls and maybe gotten one epic bruiser or scout. The weekend events don't seem to make a difference for me but I understand that my sample size is small and just anecdotal.

I don't think it's truly random. Yes, it appears random when looking at a handful of small samples, like you say, because there seems to be no real trend in anecdotal evidence such as yours. But when people come on and report several legendaries and epics being dropped on them as they cash in say, a dozen 15x, which has been posted several times along with screen shots, then it makes it appear as if the drops are being made in "chunks," and whoever happens to be calling at the time will benefit hugely, and everyone else is still in a drought. Technically, because they worded the event as an "increase in chance," NG are still doing what they claimed. It's just lousy from a player perspective, and I doubt they intend for a handful of players to get all the drops and everyone else to be left out.

I'd like to be able to call out for the class you need. I have retired 3 epic assaults and 3 epic bruisers, still have 3 epic bruisers and 2 legendary bruisers. Retired countless bruiser rare and assault rare. Have five shooters but cant get a hunter to save my life. Have only 1 maxed at 14 epic. All my legendarys came on weekend specials (4) of them.

It would be interesting to see the algorithm. It can't be truly random. Computers can't do truly random. There are various ways of getting almost, kinda, looks like random but there is always an algorithm of some sort involved.

I suspect it is different for us lower - middle level players. I seem to be having comparatively good "luck" with the radios but what looks good to me looks crappy to a lot of people. I don't have a Level 12 yet so I would be very happy to get one.

The max level is tied to your council I believe so I don't think the lower and mid levels do better.
  • DCNatsDCNats Member Posts: 223
I.e., high level players aren't getting epic and legendary survivors who cap out at lvl 12 that they then discard. If they pull a epic or legendary, the max lvl will be appropriate.

Oddly, most of mine have been epic. The last one I got wasn't but he was a shooter with a higher cap than the only shooter I had so I was happy to see him.

That is an excellent explanation, and completely true about computer generated "randomness."
Unfortunately, I am not a lower or mid level player. I've played since the game was released, and with the exception of this recent game update allowing me to upgrade again, I am maxed. I'm working on the recent council upgrade. My survivors can't handle the story missions in hard and nightmare modes at the end of the game. All I do is gather canned goods and xp. It's gotten really boring. Hoping for an epic/legendary weekend soon, so I can try out all the radios I've collected.

Thank you. It was one of the first things I was taught in computer math class (which is what they called it back then).

I can see how you can get maxed out although I'm nowhere close. I'm at the stage where I need to so this before I can do that. My survivors can't handle the story missions in hard and nightmare modes either (or regular mode, for that matter). So I need to upgrade them but I had to upgrade the council before I upgraded the training grounds but, after I upgrading the council I found out that I had to upgrade my storage so I could hold enough tomato cans to upgrade the training grounds. and so forth. Things are getting expensive.

So you can't train your survivors and/or upgrade your equipment enough to get through hard and nightmare modes at the end of the game? That's no fun.

I only have a couple epics that have any room for training left, and once I complete the next/final training camp upgrade, if it exists, they will be maxed out, too. Alone, they would not be enough to play the last few hard and nightmare levels. I have a few low leveI survivors I need to dump and replace, but all of my calls the last few weeks actually resulted in WORSE survivors, so I rejected them. I have a couple new survivors I picked up in my most recent missions, but they are uncommons, and I'm considering never upgrading them, because they may never be strong enough and it seems like a waste. They will end up being similar in strength to what I need to dump now. The only thing they would have going for them is that because they can be upgraded a little higher, they can holder higher weapons eventually, but not anytime soon. There would have to be at least one more council and training camp release by NG first. And, btw, just because you upgrade your council, doesn't mean your other buildings will be upgrade-able. Some buildings skip council levels for upgrade ability later in the game. I'm to the point where if they won't drop any upper level epic or legendaries on me, I'm dead in the water and going to quit. It really just isn't fun anymore. All I do is collect cans and xp playing the same exploration missions hundreds of times over for days. The game loses it's playability before you reach the end.

I hoard my phones and wait for the survivor events. I usually have 300 plus when they hit. My squad is filled with 15 epic, 2 legendary, 1 rare and 2 uncommon I got on drops (plus the 3 losers I got for outposts). If I have a bad run during the event, I stop for a while. It has worked so far, but now I am turning away epic survivors and mostly need legendary if I want to really upgrade.
