Challenge mission gas costs need a major adjustment

Self explanatory title! As other threads have suggested, Master Missions has unlocked a whole new level of grind.

Top players have to buy boosters at least twice a week in order to hit peak scores, and this is creating a huge gap between P2P and F2P players. Challenge missions gas costs should be reduced by 2 gas per mission.

Advantages of reducing gas costs:
1. Most P2P players will still buy boosters because of them will still want to compete and push as far as they can.
2. It will help F2P players stay reasonably more competitive.
3. Allowing players to hit higher level challenge missions will encourage the use of more gold for healing (just look at my account the past few weeks...).
4. Saving gas on challenge missions will give lower level players more opportunities to run supply scavenge missions and build their camp.

Potential disadvantages of reducing gas costs:
1. Perhaps slightly fewer booster sales, but again, I think gold spending will more than make up for this.

Looks like a win-win for everyone. Let's do this @Fluxxx (when you return from vacation :joy:)!

I agree , every mission played should be no more than 2 Gas across the board

It would be nice indeed! I don't think it's going to bridge the gap too much at the top, eventually you hit a wall and no amount of gas will get you through it. Gold will always be the difference.

What we really need is 1-2 brutal maps that are impassable at RSL50+++. Nightly visitors should be that map this week

When you gotta wait 40-50 minutes before you can play that's obviously a problem.

As a completely F2P, almost maxed out player (level 72),I don't feel there is a shortage of gas at all at the moment in the game. A year ago? Sure. Today? No.

I'm not going to pretend that I'm a top level player and I don't know if you can be or not while staying F2P. But I have no problem every week hitting my 1200-1400 star plateau, while also finishing the distance (once usually) and also playing around in the outpost.

NG has put a number of things in place for us to gain extra gas already. As an F2P player I feel that they already cater to our needs tremendously well. And if I want more rewards, paying seems fair enough.

I am mostly f2p besides using google rewards. Spent maybe 45 in over 3 years. I hit 1800+ stars and at end the heal time hurts need that gold to heal. I stop 3 staring at around MM37 38 depending on missions. Gas has been improved. Then again my work schedule allows me to play more during the day. I dont have a 9 to 5 job.

I also get it from top dogs who do spend gold how gold can be an issue.

Fair. But if your camp is at level 72 and you’re only getting around 1500, you can likely reset Distance, scavenge, raid outposts, or do other things to improve your gear and survivors to score more. All of those things require gas.

My average score is 2300-2500, and I can’t achieve that unless I use a booster on Wednesday (or unless I have 300 guild gifts like last week). 2100 is sometimes possible with the gas you get in-game, but you can’t waste any gas that you generate in order to get there.

I’ve already paid for gear, gold, radios, etc. NG has publicly stated that gas boosters are a tiny share of their revenue, so I don’t see what incentive they have to restrict challenge play by limiting gas.

    I'm kinda torn here.

On one hand, cheaper gas missions? Heck yeah why not? And support JayZ yes yes.

On the other hand, I get 2000 - 2100 every week and I usually quit by Saturday. (Not paying for healing)

And I don't usually buy gas.

The whole game is set up to trick us into addiction and angst to buy stuff.

With Master Missions, many are already burning gold on Wednesday.

NG also managed to make most of us deprived of TG with recent economy "rebalance" (30 gas and other offers).

    I say there's a grind. People say there's not.

Looking forward to how GWs interacts with everything else.

Another 100% F2P here. I can usually hit about 1700-1800 per week depending on the map set. I'm currently at level 72 and saving for my council upgrade.

For me, gas is less of a problem than healing time (which of course I could speed up by using gold). I rarely reach my max which is around 2,000 stars due to the time it takes to wait for my survivors to heal

I typically hit the 2,000 mark during special events involving reduced healing time.

@ADPaq do you not think that if you had more gas you could get further quicker allowing you more time to wait for healing?

I think lowering the gas cost for the Master Mission would go a long way... I think double the cost is way too much, especially as these MM usually have to be repeated a few times at higher levels to get 3 stars... 2 repeats and we're already at the same gas cost as playing the 6 missions individually, which kind of negates the effect of Master Missions.

Dont worry you can upgrade the car to get 4 more gas, you know not even enough to run 1 challenge mission for the low cost of 20 million tomatoes 🤣

When do we switch to horse powered cars like in the show?

Great idea @fretje. Maybe that's the solution. It would allow F2P players (or cheap bastards like me) to reach the tougher levels more quickly.

@Firekid I take your point, but honestly I don't think it would make that much difference. Right now I have 20 gas and my 3 main survivors in hospital. Even with the reduced healing it will take over an hour to get them back into play, at which point I'll have 26 gas. So more gas doesn't help me at this point.

I'm not opposed to gas costs being reduced or there being more gas available, I'm just pointing out that the abundance of gas isn't the main limiting factor for me as an F2Per.

To be honest I value healing so much so, it was the first building I upgraded. I should have enough tomatoes to kick off my council upgrade tomorrow.

You know I would love this. But I'm confused as too how it would impact those (few) that are complaining about this new grind?

Maybe the Master Mission needs to go away after a certain difficulty?

Someone suggested that and at first I was like... "Um no"... But maybe that's the solution?

It would have to be pretty high tho... Maybe at survivor level +20?

That was me that voiced the concern about MMs lol @ATLAS-Z

In my mind, there are two separate issues: gas costs and the grind. I’m more concerned about the former than the latter.

I used to be P2P, stoped with all the nerfing a fees years back. Latterly I have been spending a bit on some good deals but not gas.

It’s a grind and always be depends on how much of a grind as to how you play and what you are trying achieve.

Personally I think gas requirement should reduce, where it’s 5 lets see 4 and see how it goes, scavenger to 4 and see. The gas for free and for TD means I always have gas bit if I decide to to a lot then it will be a problem. I cerwintly can’t spend ages grind scavenging and so it’s a long grind to get tomatoes and level up.

@Fluxxx and NG Just take a gas tank or 2 off for say 2 week And see?

Very soon NG will see what it does.

i don’t know that the MM needs to be lowered necessarily...but the actual missions definitely do. 6 is too much. Should be more like 4

Challenge maps should have a fixed cost of 5 gas.

Master Missions should cost the same 5 gas as a regular mission.

Hard to say really, I totally get the point that F2P has no chance for the top leaderboard, but not sure if more gas would change anything. I bought a 24h gas bundle this week since I hadn't had time to do the Distance (twice) before the challenge started, and ended up maxing my challenge score already on Friday. So I think I would have ended up at around the same score (~2400) had I not bought the booster.
