At the risk of getting banned....

At the risk of getting banned I really am curious as to just how does someone infract someone else? It sounds like something that would be thoroughly painful, highly humiliating and completely de-humanizing. How am I the only one that is asking for clarification here...I feel like I would need medical intervention in order to reverse the side effects of being "Infracted" and I'm the only one bring this up? How are we suppose to follow orders and be obedient when we don't even understand them?

Oh well... All my thread are usually derailed. I use to start talking about something and after a while everybody is talking about something else... Traits, sex, humor, politics, sex between capybaras, guilds, trivia...

Is that "answer my question with a question" thread?

  • @DarkFae I actually meant to look this up the other day to get an exact definition. I was thinking it had to do with drilling for oil.

Click on the red "infract" in the original post it leads to the definition. It's an action that should lead to punishment or censure not the punishment or censure it's self unless we are going to get a big red I stamped across our profile pic's or something.

Yeah I can see how the mistake was made. People often use the noun form as a name for punishment/consequence. They probably incorrectly derived it from infraction.

I've watched some " infraction " porn videos...

    But glad to say...

no one was underage... No animals were injured...

I am easily confused by other people's, laziness and sloppiness and greed...

Any guess who might " now " be on my list, ( in 2017 )

would make more sense if we were to be extracted...it just doesn't sound legal to infract someone. Like maybe the constitution can get invoked in order to protect us from it or something lol. Or maybe counter-acted, distracted, impacted?

You mean in place of "infracted"? They could use the popular name I mentioned with the phrase "given an Infraction". But I would prefer words like penalized, cited, or reprimanded.

"given an infraction" is not really possible either. You can mark someones record with a mark that represents the infraction that has been committed but you can not infract someone or give them an infraction because an infraction must be enacted or committed. And for some around here it is more like persecuted.

At least in the USA they do this a lot. (I capitalized it on purpose in my 9:33 pm comment)

I was born and raised in the USA and have spent over 99% of my life here and have not ever seen this done. It may be that this "infraction" takes place more often in your part of the country than mine.

"violators will incur an infraction" would make more sense. I have heard that term used here in the USA more frequently.

The whole noun-to-verb, verb-to-noun thing happens often enough to have articles written about it. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nominalization

I suspect the issue here is a less than precise translation.

    Maybe "redacted?"
  • [Deleted User][Deleted User] Posts: 2,344
    @WahooDawg

That is a much better wording choice and happens very often here. Or maybe even "contracted"

I just think that it would be more helpful (especially considering the fact that this is an international forum and the orginator of that post is in a position of authority) and lead to less misunderstandings if moderators made statements that were more clear, precise and definitive while establishing boundaries for forum etiquette and threatening an entire community of forum users.

Yeah I guess you are right, but I have seen too many Law and Order reruns for that term to look correct IMO in any other fashion other than exactly how I typed it :p

We could always ask " zbot " what he was trying to say...

Errr... Naah... He probably wouldn't answer...

We're having more fun playing with words... Carry on...

True. But things don't always translate across cultures. There is also the problem that language, especially English, is very fluid and the meaning of words can morph over the years. Sometimes we all need to give each other a little slack.

He has been given plenty of "slack" way more slack than he gives in return.

  • @theRealBender that's it. Although I think I've infracted a couple of frakking girls before. It's easier when they're frakking infracted. Sometimes I like to I like to infract them just for the frakking.
